I received a little buttery yellow heart-shaped sample of Ethique Saving Face Serum in the Ethique Face Sampler box, which contains five minis from their face care range.
Saving Face Serum is made with Cupuacu, Shea Butter, Rosehip and Pomegranate oils. These ingredients have high concentrations of antioxidants, phytosterols, polyphenols and fatty acids to promote firm, hydrated skin. It’s a potent face serum for normal to dry skin, and you can use Saving Face in two ways; either as a nutrient and hydration booster under your normal face cream, or as your only moisturiser.
As I have very oily skin, I chose to try this as my only moisturiser at night, instead of a night cream, but this serum is far too rich for my skin and caused my skin to break out. So, instead, I used this serum as a body moisturiser and it worked perfectly to nourish my legs after shaving, and it nourished and hydrated the skin on my shoulders and arms after they had received a little too much sun during a bout of gardening over the weekend.
To use Saving Face, you simply warm the bar in your hands until a little of the product has melted onto your palms, then you put the bar down and use your fingertips to massage the product into your face, or use your hands to massage the product onto your body. It is quite a greasy feeling serum, and even when I used it on my body, my skin felt slippery and greasy for hours afterwards. If you don’t mind your skin looking or feeling a little greasy for an hour or two, the hydrating benefits of this serum are definitely worth it.
Ethique’s products are available online or from selected stockists.
Update: As of June 2019, Ethique began the process of reformulating all of their bars, so the new bar’s formula may be quite different to the old one that I reviewed above.
