I saw Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder on the shelf at Countdown while I was buying groceries. While I’m not a fan of pressed powder compacts and prefer a loose powder that’s applied with a brush, I had run out of loose powder and didn’t have time to shop around for more, and needed fairly urgently to tide me over for a few days, to set my foundation and reduce shine on my oily skin.
I know that Maybelline’s Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation stick in “Natural Beige” #220 matches my skin tone perfectly, but there were only two shades of the Fit Me Pressed powder on the self at Countdown for me to choose from, #120 “Classic Ivory” or #225 “Medium Buff”, even though it is available in 18 different shades. Just looking at the colour of “Medium Buff”, I could see that it was going to be far too dark for my skin tone, and “Classic Ivory” was too light, but knew I could probably get away with wearing the lighter one if applied sparingly with a powder brush instead of the powder puff provided.
The pressed powder comes in a sturdy square black compact with a clear section on the lid, where the colour of the powder can be seen through. Once opened, the powder compact flips up and a little powder puff is stored underneath, along with a mirror attached to the bottom of the powder compact. In a way it is nice having the mirror underneath the powder as it keeps it clean, but it is a bit of pain having to load the puff or my brush up with powder and then flip up the compact to access the mirror underneath. It’s a minor issue that has both pros and cons, but overall the packaging is well thought out and is sturdy, yet still small and compact.
As I’d thought, “Classic Ivory” is a little too light for my skin tone, but I had needed powder in a hurry, so I don’t regret my purchase. I am able to use it over my foundation if I apply it lightly with a powder brush, or if I sparingly pat the powder onto my skin with the powder puff and then get rid of any excess with a buffing brush so that my skin doesn’t look too light.
I’d definitely repurchase Maybelline’s Fit Me Pressed Powder compact to use when travelling, or for emergency touch-ups, but only if I can find it in the correct shade for my skin tone.
