Perpetual Peony is a cool-toned pale pink with lavender undertones and can be quite a difficult colour to pull off, depending on what you’re wearing. But it is the perfect colour for understated lips if you’re wanting to finish off a bold or smokey-eyed look.
The 3.3g lipstick bullet is packaged in a sturdy clear plastic tube that reflects the colour of the lipstick within. The white opaque lid clips on with a satisfying click to ensure that it doesn’t come loose in your handbag.
The lipstick glides on quite moist and then dries to a long-lasting matte finish that doesn’t bleed or feather but use a lip liner anyway as it will help extend the longevity of your lipstick. It definitely doesn’t live up to its claims; it won’t last 14 hours and does come off a little, but you will get a good 4 to 6 hours between touch-ups.
I found the colour to feel rather drying after a few hours and have noticed that if there are any dry bits of skin on my lips that they are accentuated by this pale colour and matte finish. For best results, gently exfoliate your lips (with a washcloth or toothbrush) before applying a little lip balm or lip serum to moisturise. Do the rest of your make-up and then wipe off any excess lip balm or serum before applying Maybelline Super Stay 14hr lipstick.
