A 50g tin of Vanilla Latte Coffee Scrub from Little Olive Tree was the Day 1 surprise gift in the 2019 Beautiful Surprises Advent Calendar.
The nice thing about this scrub is it is packaged in a twist top tin, which keeps the scrub nice and dry, plus there’s not resealable strip to get clogged with coffee grinds. Having had a few not-so-pleasant experiences with coffee scrubs in the past, I will admit that I was a very hesitant to use this, but into the shower I went.
On the bottom of the tin is simply says, “Suitable for head-to-toe use. Use in a hot shower up to 2 or 3 times a week or as required.” I scooped a little out of the tin, and true to form, as with other coffee scrubs, I found this product to be fairly dry, crumbly, messy and quite difficult to use. The scrub landed up all over the shower floor, walls and glass. I even added a little water before scrubbing, to try and keep the mess as minimal as possible and the scrub on my body.
As soon as the coffee scrub was rinsed off, it left an oily residue on the shower floor that quickly turned into an oily brown stain, as the ground coffee beans do release some of their natural colour and oils when the warm water hits them. This is normal with coffee scrubs, so expect to have to scrub and wash your shower walls, door and shower floor (especially if it’s white) every time you use the scrub, just to get rid of the coffee-tinged oily residue after each use.
The benefits of the scrub (according to Little Olive Tree’s website) are that it exfoliates your body by removing dead skin cells and rejuvenates your pores. It moisturises your skin due to it containing a generous combination of natural oils, delivering a smooth moisturising experience after the coffee granules have been rinsed off. It’s good for cellulite, as the caffeine and antioxidants in coffee, in conjunction with a massage motion, have shown to have positive effects on cellulite. It’s 100% natural, bio-degradable and eco-friendly. It’s suitable for all areas to deliver an all-around scrub experience gentle enough for your face and other sensitive areas, but with enough kick to work the tougher areas, too (heels and feet for example). Contains essential oils derived from nature.
The smell of this scrub was lovely, it’s definitely Vanilla Latte, but other than that, I think I’m just not a fan of coffee scrubs. I know it’s a personal preference and not a reflection on the product. I simply don’t like the mess, oily residue and coffee stains that a coffee scrub produces in the shower. I much prefer a cream-based exfoliator that’s easier to massage onto my skin, without the product flying around everywhere. Unfortunately, I won’t be purchasing more of this.
But, if you are a fan of using coffee scrubs, consider trying Little Olive Tree’s Vanilla Latte scrub, it smells amazing! Little Olive Tree’s coffee scrubs are available in three different flavors; Coffee, Sweet Orange & Coffee, or Vanilla Latte, and they come in three different size options: 50g, 100g or 250g, and are available online.
